The Hijab; Beyond a head cover!
Hello everyone! Assalamu alaikum It’s been a while since i have written here, i believe there’s absolutely no one here though. I just write because i want to get it off my mind and reflect on it as i read. So the hijab! Hijab, hijab, hijab… we all know it’s a muslimah garment. We all know it’s a fabric we use to cover our bodies and hair, right?
But what is really hijab?
Hijab in arabic means a barrier. Now think of it. When we say barrier, barrier from what? That’s where i will like to say the hijab is beyond just a cover. It’s a protective shield, more like an armor. Completely far from being a garment of adornment or fashion! Today’s hijab is just a scarf of beauty. I mean we all look at the peng ones when we want to buy… and erm, we are going against the real hijab. When hijab is meant to be shield, we are using it as an attention caller.
In this era, we have different forms of clothing we call the hijab; clothes that attract; reveal our adornments!
Why wear the hijab!
The hijab is not an option for the muslimah. It also defines you my sister, i mean it defines your iman level because it’s a worship! You read that right! Reread it in case you think its a mistake.
Well, i know some of us be like, where in the quran was the hijab mentioned? Newsflash! We can refer back to the times of the prophet peace be upon him when the muslim women were harassed and the hijab ayah was revealed. Hijab wasn’t mentioned in context but it said believing women should draw their outer garments ( to fully cover themselves). Another verse that talked about lowering of gazes added that women should not reveal their beauty! How is beauty hidden? Via the hijab! That being said, all of these verses were verses of command and adhering to these commands means being obedient to Allah. In case you do not know, you’re rewarded by obtaining full hijab.
I think I’m gonna stop here for this episode on hijab. I intend to write it in three parts. The Hijab; Beyond a headcover. The Hijab is ibadah. Hijab is modesty in the heart. Please do share your thoughts.
Ramadan Mubarak!
